Brody Update 02/06/19

Claire and I have been prepping for this day for 19 weeks. I say 19, because it wasn’t untill 20 weeks of pregnancy that we really knew what delivery was going to look like. Here’s a piece of Brody’s first hours breathing in some fresh air!! (Kind of…..)

After about 4 anxious hours of waiting in the Pre Operation room, Claire was wheeled into the Operating room, where they did a spinal tap in order to numb her lower body for the C-section. As I arrived after my debrief about Brody’s departure plans from the Operating room, Claire was so radiant!!! And I’m not just saying that as her husband. She was truly glowing. She was smiling ear to ear, chatting to the people who were literally slicing her open. She was so happy about how good her hips felt (because she couldn’t feel them at all). I was immediately at peace at how incredibly calm and confident Claire was in the moment. In a circumstance that screams fear, worry, and doubt, Claire was filled with a supernatural peace and trust. “A peace that surpasses understanding.” (Philippians 4:7)

Thank you to everyone who was praying for that.

FINALLY!

Brody Michael Malarae at 7 pounds and 20inches, he was here!

After putting up quite the fight, he was very blue. The blue skin symptom is due to his heart condition. His heart does not pump enough oxygen out to his body. I truly can’t explain the rawness of that moment. Complete and utter shock and worry, as well as absolute bliss. I was staring at my son! I was bouncing back and forth between tears of joy and feeling a huge pit in my stomach.

The NICU team immediately put him on a ventilator where they were nearly breathing for him completely. Long story short, by the grace of God within a few hours Brody had gained his color back and his vitals were stabilizing. He was getting more and more stable every hour. Currently, less than 24 hours later, he is not receiving any extra oxygen and hasn’t been sedated at all today. God is good!

We were initially told we would have to wait 7-10 days after Brody was born for him to have his heart surgery. But as of about an hour ago, we were told that he was healthy, and stable enough, and that his heart surgery would be TOMORROW!

It’s been a wild ride already. But God’s peace and presence have been so tangible and we are in high hopes. Please continue to partner with us in prayer for Brody’s surgery and healing.

    All the ladies at Bible study today we’re thrilled to see the pictures of your beautiful son Brody. Many prayers were offered today and we will spread the word about his surgery tomorrow.     Kyler and Clair I am and have been praying for Brody since I heard at Christmas. I have also had friends from church praying and we are all in agreement with you and the prayers for his safe surgery. God please watch over this beautiful boy and the hands of the surgeon Lord God and cover the whole family with the Blood of Jesus Lord God. It’s in jesus Holy name I pray. Amen he’s adorable by the way.

    This extended family is praying for all of you. You have a beautiful son and what a blessing that lil fighter is and showing his own strength while the lord has his arms wrapped tightly around him saying look mom and dad we got this with Gods help! Lord watch over the surgical team today and continue wrapping you’re arms around this very special family, and for my dear friend and new grandma Kim and Mike a new grandpa these 2 are God parents to my girls for a reason I know you’ve got all of them, amen 🙏

    Kyler and Claire…….you are so very blessed! I am confident this will all work out! Brody is a beautiful baby boy! I am so happy for you as you enter into this thing called parenthood. You are already GREAT at it (of course, I had no doubts). Sending prayers, love, hugs and kisses!

    Oh, what a wonderful Lord we have and I love the prayers from Psalm 91:1-7…….We know that those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the almighty….This we declare about the Lord: He alone is our God….He alone is our refuge, our place of safety, he is our God, and we trust him. For he will rescue us from every trap and protect us..He will shelter them with his wings…His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that talks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, ten thousand are dying around you, you will remain untouched.

    What an absolute blessing and privilege it is to be lifting Claire, Kyler and Brody up to you in prayer our dear and precious Lord! Thank you, we truly absolutely know you are sheltering them in the shadow of your wings…..thank you Lord that you are healing this precious little baby boy as we are praying…….we will continue to be talking with you a lot these next few days!!!!
