Brody Update 02/07/19

Disclaimer: my brain feels like a huge pot of mash potatoes right now, so I’m going to make this short and sweet. We will discuss our journey from today more as we continue to process.

Let me remind you again of Psalm 73:26

“Although my flesh and heart may fail, the Lord is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

It’s interesting how you can “believe” a concept of something such as the content of Psalm 73, but how your whole world can be flipped upside-down when you truly experience a day like today.

This morning at 8:30am we watched as our son, who was born less than 48 hours ago, was wheeled into the operating room.

The day was spent with Claire’s desire of eating lots of sushi with RAW fish, and even more prayer. The emotions felt were just as raw as the sushi, yet filled with hope, peace, and proclaiming God’s goodness.

8 hours later at around 4:30pm, the heart surgeon came to us and told us with a smile that our son’s surgery went perfectly. That Brody’s chest was all closed up and he was already stabilizing. The amount of relief in that very instant was indescribable. In the words of my mother, “I feel like an elephant just leaped off my chest!”

Currently, only a few hours after the completion of surgery, Brody is stable! Praise Jesus!!! He is still really sedated, but the cardiac specialist said that his breathing tube will most likely be removed within 12 hours! At that point he will be able to breathe on his own!

After a long day of waiting and trusting, our son can finally breathe and operate the way that God intended him to. It’s truly a beautiful thing.

I can’t thank you all enough for your prayers!!

I need you to know that God hears you. He loves you. And He desires to heal you.

Thank you to my dear friend Zach for sharing this passage:

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord : He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, you will remain untouched.”

Psalms 91:1-7

Thank you for partnering with us on this journey. We are in awe at the support and love from all of you.

More to come.

    Hello Kyler and Claire,

We in North Vancouver, B.C., have been praying consistently for your little Brody! As we met for our bible study this morning we were excited to know that he was having his surgery. So thankful for such a wonderful outcome.

Thank you for the updates even when your brain felt like mashed potatoes.

Awesome to hear. My daughter Skyler, who had the same surgery at 4 days old, and I were thinking and praying for your new baby all day. I kept remembering how I was feeling that day and thinking you were probably feeling the same. Your photos bring back memories for me like it was yesterday. Congratulations on your new bundle of joy. It will all work out perfectly. God bless.
